Object acquisitions

The Josephinum’s mission is to preserve, make use of and render accessible the cultural inheritance of the Medical University of Vienna (and of the earlier medical faculty of the University of Vienna). This is why we continue primarily to acquire holdings that can be defined as the cultural legacy of the Medical University of Vienna. Nonetheless, we are essentially interested in expanding our collections in general. As a member of the International Council of Museums, the collections of the Medical University of Vienna are committed to upholding the ICOM Code of Ethics for Museums, which is why when acquiring holdings we place a high value on definitively established provenance.
